Green Hero May/June 2012

The Green Hero Award given every two months is a program of the Cambridge Green Schools Initiative (CGSI), and the honor is given to individuals or groups who are making a significant contribution or impact towards environmental sustainability in the school district. The honor is given by the school department’s Office for Sustainability.

The Green Hero honor for the months of May/June 2012 goes to Tobe Stomberg, Biology Teacher at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School.

Tobe Stomberg was once a student at CRLS, and has been teaching at the high school for 12 years. She teaches biology, genetics, and plant biology. She is also the teacher advisor to the student Environmental Action Club, which has been meeting for three years now and is active in many environmental initiatives at the high school and across the city. Tobe and the Environmental Action Club were both instrumental in working with Meryl Brott, Recycling Program Manager at the Department of Public Works, to get the composting program at CRLS launched this past May.

"Tobe is a long-time advocate of environmental action at the high school, and is also a beloved teacher who is well-respected by her students and colleagues alike. We're lucky to have a teacher like Tobe championing sustainability in our school system, and inspiring her students along the way," said Kristen von Hoffmann, Sustainability Manager for the Cambridge Public School District.
