The Marshall Memo

By: Melanie Nash, Library Media Specialist,
Teachers’ Resource Center

Last year, The Teachers’ Resource Center subscribed to The Marshall Memo. This year, we have expanded the subscription to include all CPS educators!

The Marshall Memo is a highly regarded, weekly synthesis of important ideas and research in K-12 education. In the words of its producer, Kim Marshall, “It is designed to keep principals, teachers, superintendents and others very well-informed on current research and best practices in the field.” 1 To produce the weekly memo, Mr. Marshall extracts, from the 64 esteemed publications to which he subscribes, 5 – 10 articles he thinks have “The greatest potential to improve teaching, leadership and learning.” 2 He summarizes each article, highlights compelling quotations, and emails the summaries to subscribers every Tuesday. The summaries are accompanied by links to the full articles when available, and are also available in .mp3 and HTML format.

Melanie Nash will email The Memo to CPS staff each Wednesday, beginning October 28th. Archives of The Memo are accessible through the Teachers’ Resource Center website. If you have already purchased an individual subscription to The Marshall Memo, Mr. Marshall has graciously offered to refund the cost of the individual subscription. Please contact Mr. Marshall directly to discuss. Mr. Marshall distributes his subscription-based intellectual property in a way that leaves his work particularly vulnerable to unauthorized re-distribution. Please do not share The Marshall Memo outside CPS. Please contact Melanie Nash in the Teachers’ Resource Center with questions.
