Last month, CRLS students participated in Digital Citizenship week through a series of activities in Community Meetings. Students were actively engaged in conversations around sexting, posting, online cruelty, screen time, and online identities. As a culminating activity, Community Meeting classes were asked to develop a Digital Citizenship Motto that captured the theme of the week. The winning motto, submitted by Kate Sorenson and Beverly Kucera’s CM, “Have Moral Fiber on the Cyber” encapsulated how all of us, not just our students, can be better citizens in our digital lives.
The winning motto was turned into a creative, clever poster in the RSTA Creative Design Exploratory freshmen class and made available to all CRLS teachers to display in their classrooms. These activities come on the heels of
Common Sense Media’s report that teenagers clock an average of 9 hours of media use per day (including over 6 hours of screen time). Hopefully, the posters designed by CRLS students will encourage everyone to continue discussions around these important topics.
Special thanks to RSTA Creative Design teacher Angelica Brisk and her talented class!
