Cambridge Public Schools has been using Google Docs for Education in the District for four years. We currently have 680,000+ files on the CPS GoogleDocs for Education domain. This large amount of student and staff activity shows us that there is a great need
to ensure that all documents are safe and backed up
to prevent loss. After researching last spring, we found a Cambridge based company called Backupify.
Backupify was implemented in August 2014 and
all CPS GoogleDocs for Education files are now
being backed up to the Backupify servers. Any CPS GoogleDocs account user can reach their Backupify backup by simply clicking on the Backupify icon from their GoogleDocs for education account. The icon is located in the Apps icon (9 gray squares in the top right corner of the dashboard) from your GoogleDocs Dashboard. The Backupify is at the bottom of the list after you click “More” from the Apps.
Once you are at the Backupify site, you can select
“Log in using Google”, and you will login in with your CPS GoogleDocs for Education credentials. Once logged in, you will see the interface of the Backupify dashboard, which is pretty easy to understand. You will be able to see the structure of your Google Drive as well as Calendar, Sites, and Contacts.
You can restore any of your files back to your CPS GoogleDocs for Education account. Select the area you would like to restore from. Check off the items you would like to restore, then click the restore button at the top of the screen. You will be shown how many items are going to be restored as well as to what user they will be restored to. The last step is to click
the orange restore button and you are done.
On your CPS GoogleDocs for Education account,
you will notice a folder that starts with the name “(Backupify Restore ….”, the date is also included
so you know when the restore happened.
If you would like more assistance with Backupify
and maneuvering through the site, please contact
one of your ICTS Team Members in your school.
