Cheryl Mason, MLK Senior Clerk

This is Ms. Mason's last year at MLK. She will retire at the end of this school year.

How long have you worked at MLK?
30 years.

What changes have you seen at the school over the years?
Most recently, we moved into this new building 8 years ago. The old building was torn down and a new one was built from top to bottom.

Of course going from a K-8 to a K-5 school was big. The King always taught Mandarin but the start of the Immersion program was a big change along with the ELT (extended learning time). The population of students has changed over the years, we have far fewer African American students than we used to.

Do you find that kids act differently than they did 30 years ago?
Not really.

What about the school has impressed you over the years?
The fact that we get so many students from all over the world. Gerald is a good Principal and I enjoy working with him. I love the staff and I am going to miss everyone and I will definitely miss the kids.

What are your work goals for this year?
Make sure that everything is in order and to help transition whoever sits in the position next year so that everything runs smoothly from day one of the 2024-25 school year.

My plans for after retirement are to travel, travel, rest, rest, travel, travel
