CitySprouts Garden

citysprouts gardenThe rooftop garden at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School is the first intentionally designed learning garden to be included in Cambridge Public Schools new school building construction. The rooftop garden is accessible through the library and hallway, and includes raised beds, tool storage, compost bin and an outdoor sink for cleaning vegetables. Solar panels above the garden offer shade to the young gardeners while also providing solar energy to the school. The garden has a digging bed, sensory bed, vegetables, pollinators, and herbs.

citysprouts gardenCitySprouts is a school garden program founded on the belief that all children should have the chance to explore science through hands-on, real-world experiences from an early age. By observing, experimenting, and discovering in the garden, students build a strong foundation in science learning and curiosity about the natural world.

A CitySprouts Garden Educator visits the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School every other week throughout the year. Garden Educators partner with the classroom teacher to engage students in investigations and projects.

CitySprouts also offers volunteer opportunities in the garden year-round. If you’d like to get involved, please email [email protected].
