In 2015, the Tobin Montessori School achieved accreditation by the American Montessori Society (AMS), making it the first Preschool - 5 AMS-accredited public school in the United States! The school was then reaccredited by AMS in 2023. Teachers hold Massachusetts licenses as well as Montessori Certification.
Montessori education, based on the research of Italian physician Dr. Maria Montessori, is focused on nurturing each child’s potential by providing learning experiences that support their intellectual, physical, emotional, and social development. Montessori is an individualized, child-centered learning process that empowers children to be independent.
Students at Tobin are engaged in a rich Montessori curriculum that is fully aligned to the Massachusetts state standards. A highly collaborative school, educators provide an environment where diversity is respected and celebrated. Children not only learn how to be independent learners, but they also gain the skills necessary for working collaboratively in the classroom and beyond the walls of our school.
Although there may be some seats available for older children, the typical age of entry for Tobin Montessori is 3 years old. Montessori classrooms are divided into three learning communities:

- Lower Elementary (ages 6 – 9)
- Upper Elementary (ages 9 – 11)
