Accomplishments: 2013

  • Our Facilities Department and Office for Sustainability continued to work in partnership with the City of Cambridge and the Department of Public Works to implement new projects and energy-efficiency measures.
  • The Cambridge Green School Initiative continued to run – and supported sustainable and energy-efficient practices throughout each of our school buildings.
  • In 2012 we completed the commissioning of new HVAC at Longfellow; a DDC (direct digital controls) System Integration completed at: Baldwin, Cambridgeport, Graham & Parks, Kennedy-Longfellow, King/Amigos, King Open, Morse, Peabody, and Tobin. For FY13 we have a DDC Upgrade in progress at the Haggerty School, an HVAC upgrade in progress at Peabody School, an HVAC upgrade at Baldwin planned, a retuning of War Memorial planned, and lighting upgrades at Cambridgeport and Fletcher-Maynard planned.
  • Additionally, the King/Amigos School building on Putnam is now underway with a new design for the building, which will be LEED-certified.
  • In the summer of 2012, we published our annual Sustainability Year-in-Review report, in which we noted that over the past two years we have implemented the following energy efficiency projects, resulting in a net projected annual savings of $295,738 dollars; 618,313 kWh of electricity; and 29,863 therms.
  • Furthermore, six schools are composting their lunch leftovers now. They are: King Open, Graham & Parks, Peabody, Cambridgeport, Tobin, and CRLS.
