Dear CPS Community:
As our students and staff largely transition from a busy and productive school year to a well-earned summer vacation, it is my distinct honor to serve as interim superintendent for the Cambridge Public Schools. School leaders and district staff will be hard at work over the coming months preparing for a smooth and successful opening of the 2024 - 2025 academic year.
For our students participating in extended school year and other summer programs, our schools will continue to operate over the coming months through the unyielding dedication and commitment for which our Cambridge educators are so well known. Beyond the summer, the year ahead promises to be an exciting one for our school district. Next fall, through our partnership with the City of Cambridge, the years-long vision of a universal preschool program to serve our youngest learners will come to fruition. In addition, our Tobin and Vassal Lane school communities will spend their final year in their temporary locations at the Kennedy Longfellow and Longfellow Broadway buildings, respectively, before the opening of the new Tobin/Darby Vassall building in the fall of 2025.
To the parents and caregivers who continue to entrust their most precious assets in our care, on behalf of Cambridge School Committee and each of our individual school communities, I thank you for your trust and confidence. And to our educators and staff, on behalf of the Cambridge community, I offer my heartfelt thanks for the school year that has now completed, and in anticipation of all the great work yet to come.
As interim superintendent, I will work tirelessly over the coming months to ensure a seamless leadership transition for the Cambridge Public Schools. As this process moves forward, the district will continue to advance our mission to inspire, acknowledge, empower, and support every student on their personal journey to achieve their highest potential.
In gratitude and partnership,
David Murphy,
Interim Superintendent
