The MLK school is in the middle of cider pressing season! The kids are able to participate in each step of the cider making process. They wash, cut, and mash the apples. As well help to press them into fresh apple cider. At the end each student gets to taste the product of their hard work!

Students are working on identifying complete habitats in the garden using skills learned in class. They are using the garden to write poetry and other forms of self expression. Students are also using the sensory plant bed in garden as a space to be calm and gather themselves before going back to class. In many ways the garden benefits all types of learning!

Now that it's fall we are starting to prepare the garden for its first winter. We have introduced worms into the garden in preparation for the spring. The students are helping to plant winter rye to prevent erosion and nutrient loss during winter. They are helping to harvest the last bit of food before the growing season ends.
