Hour of Code

Hour of Code
Posted on 02/02/2015
Hour of CodeIn celebration of Computer Science week, kindergarten through fifth grade students participated in the annual Hour of Code. The Hour of Code is an opportunity for all students to try at least one hour of computer science. This shows that anyone can learn the basics of programming.

A week prior to the Hour of Code, students participated in "offline" activity to introduce the concept of computer science and computational thinking. Many students were surprised to learn that it is not the computer that is smart, it is the computer scientist that is telling the computer what to do!

The 4th and 5th grade students had the unique opportunity to continue their journey into computer scientist with the AP computer science students from Cambridge Rindge and Latin. The high schoolers took the short walk over to the King school to help our students work through very blockly games where they had to create and run programs by arranging blocks with a simple click, drag, and drop.
