Dear Families,

I hope that you had a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving break! I would like to share a few highlights of the past month that we are thankful for, in no particular order:

  • Thank you to Julie Hodges (parent) and Ellen Chu (librarian) for hosting our book fair for three days (plus extra days to set up and close). We sold almost 1,000 books and thanks to the All for Books Fund, every student was able to bring a book home.

  • Thank you to our math coach Monica Leon and literacy coach Kelly Petitt for hosting two incredible nights to support math and literacy skills. Between the presentations, activities, free books, and food, I know this took much effort and coordination. However, it was all worth it as students and families had fun learning together!

  • Thank you to our students and teachers for Character Day! Students worked so hard to create, capture, and role-play as one of their favorite literacy characters. It was great to see the joy of reading come alive through this community event.

  • Thank you to Kristen Hartness from Canines for Disabled Kids for her school presentation about living with a disability and service animals. We were touched by her life story and learned more about the assistance provided by service animals.

  • Thank you to author Tom O’Donnell for sharing his experiences writing Space Rocks with students in grades 3-5. Our students loved using their imagination to create an alien and learned more about the challenges and joys of being an author.

Finally, thank you to our parents/guardians for attending Parent Conferences. We hope that you found this time to be valuable and productive. Please continue to communicate with your child’s teacher if you have any question, concerns, or commendations.

Yours truly,

Gerald Yung, Principal
