Do you know about the Human Computers?
Posted on 03/11/2025
We have completed our Black History Month Information Treasure Hunt for 2025. This year we focused on three African American women who worked as computers for NASA's space flight programs. Early rocket experiments and missions to the moon and beyond wouldn’t have been possible without a team known as the "human computers.” They computed and planned flight paths for spacecraft based on the vehicle weight, lift capacity of the rocket, and the orbital dynamics of the planets. We learned about three African American computers named Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson.

A special thank you goes out to parent Eric Leslie for once again helping to make it all happen and to the Friends of MLK whose generous support allowed us to purchase prizes for winning entries, to all of our teachers for facilitating student participation, and to the students for their enthusiasm and excitement.
