Civic Engagement: City Council Candidate Panel

Civic Engagement: City Council Candidate Panel
Posted on 08/01/2019
Students in grades 3-5 welcomed 13 City Council candidates for a student-moderated discussion on the election process and civic engagement. Student-generated questions included asking about providing children bicycles on Memorial Drive when it is closed on Sundays and ways to protect the environment.

I would like to thank parents Dr. Hsieh and Dr. Toomey for their hard work and outreach to make this happen. Special thank you to students Emi, Owen, and Atheeb who were fantastic moderators and timekeepers.

This was truly a unique, authentic opportunity for our students to learn more about voting, rights, and how, in a few short years, they will be able to make a difference. Please don’t forget to vote on November 5th, and you can also ask your children which candidate they would vote for.
