Title 1 at the King School

Title 1 at the King School
Posted on 01/16/2015
The King School has a very diverse community of families. Many countries and languages from around the world are represented in our student body. Along with cultural diversity, the King School can boast of its economic diversity. Approximately 35% of our families are eligible for free or reduced lunch. This mix of people at the King make this an interesting and dynamic place to work and learn for both students and adults.

Although diversity of all kinds enriches any program, it also can present challenges. Title 1 funding helps our schools and others in the district to address some of these challenges. Title 1 is federal money given to schools with a 40 % or higher low income student population. Currently the King school receives less funding then in previous years, as our demographics have changed over time. However, we still receive financial support through the Title 1 office. This support allows us to have additional math and literacy coaches, classroom assistants, money for our parent and community events, and free books and supplies that we make available to students and families.

Title 1 also sponsors many family events throughout the district, such as game nights, parent education and job training opportunities, parent support groups, and many fun activities that children of all ages and their families can enjoy together. Please review the Title 1 calendar that comes home monthly in your child’s backpack (usually on colored paper) and take advantage of these free community events.
