Message from Gerald Yung: October 11, 2017

Dear Families,

Nightly reading is an important habit for our students. It builds their vocabulary and exposes students to a wonderful universe of magical adventures, true life experiences, and diverse characters. Please read the below information from Ms. Petitt and Ms. Varney.

From our English Coach, Ms. Petitt:
All students should be checking books out from the library weekly, provided they don't have overdue books and are able to do so. Parents should also expect students to be bringing home independent reading books from their classrooms. Students should be reading for at least 20 minutes nightly. This can be a combination of children reading to families and, especially in grades JK-2, families reading aloud to children.

From Our Librarian, Ms. Varney:
Students in grades 2-5 are checking out books weekly and should remember to return them. Grade 1 will begin to bring library books home soon. Kindergarten students select books to keep in their classrooms.

Also, students in grades 4 & 5 may voluntary participate in the Massachusetts Children's Book Award program. Learn more information >>

Thank You
It was an honor to host Civil Rights Veteran and Freedom Singer, Mr. Hollis Watkins to our school for an all-school assembly last Friday. Thank you to parent Mr. Eric Leslie for his work in arranging for this visit.

Finally, please note that there is no school this Monday, October 9th. I hope you enjoy the long weekend and keep reading!

Yours Truly,
Gerald Yung, Principal
