Who’s Who at The King School: Ellen Chu

Ellen ChuEllen Chu has been the Librarian at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. School since January of 2013. This is her first job as a school librarian since graduating from the master of Library Sciences Program at Simmons College. She became interested in library work when she was volunteering in her child’s school library. She fell in love with the library and decided to make a career change.

Ms. Chu, who was born in Taiwan but raised in Brooklyn N.Y., received a trip to Singapore as a college graduation gift from her parents. She was there visiting with her grandfather, when she began working as a Manager for the On Air Promotions Department at HBO. She stayed for seven years.

As the King School Librarian, Ms. Chu particularly enjoys being able to connect students to Chinese authors, illustrators, and literature. She also was pleasantly surprised to get a job in the U.S., which allows her to use her Chinese daily. Although she is looking forward to the move, she recognizes the challenge that it presents. Once the library is settled in the new building, Ms. Chu is looking forward to incorporating more technology into her lessons, connecting with other libraries in the area and beyond, and more author visits.
