Personal Versus Private Information

Personal Versus Private Information
Posted on 11/18/2014

In our digital world today, children have a plethora of resources at their fingertips that connect them to streams of endless information and people from around the world. This past month, 4th and 5th grade students have been taught to think critically about what types of information is safe to share online. Personal information is defined as information that cannot be used to track you down and it is safe to share online. Private information is information that can be used to track you down or steal your identity and is not safe to share online.

What can you do?

  • Continue the conversation at home. Decide as a family what you feel comfortable sharing online.
  • Talk about how to handle situations when asked for information they do not feel comfortable sharing.
