Math Olympiad Club Starts in 2015-16 School Year
Posted on 05/19/2015

Elementary schools across the city are starting Math Olympiad clubs next school year for 4th and 5th graders. The MLK School will offer the Math Olympiad one-hour a week during the school day. The schedule and other details are still to be determined.

What is Math Olympiad?

Math Olympiad is a friendly atmosphere to improve problem
solving skills for 4th and 5th graders. Students of all math abilities are highly encouraged to participate and have the option of competing in five school-based written contests throughout the year. The club meetings are usually broken into two segments, with the first 30 minutes focusing on the practice or acquisition of a specific skill and the last 30 minutes consisting of students working in groups on novel problem solving.

What are the Goals of the Program?

  • To stimulate enthusiasm and a love for Mathematics
  • To strengthen Mathematical flexibility in solving problems
  • To foster Mathematical creativity and ingenuity
