MonkeyThe Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School welcomed the Chinese New Year with not one but two performances. The Year of the Monkey was celebrated during the week of February 8 twice in the new auditorium: on Wednesday for students and staff (including a traditional lion dance) and Friday for their families. Students at all grade levels danced and sang Chinese songs (some with handmade props). Introductions to the performances were given in both English and Chinese. There were special lunches featuring Chinese food on Wednesday for students and Friday for faculty. Special thanks are given to the school’s seven Chinese language teachers (lao shi): Tien Lao Shi, Tan Lao Shi, Wang Lao Shi, Li Lao Shi, Wen Wen Lao Shi, Chuang Lao Shi, and Yi Lao Shi.
