From the MLK Garden

GardenThe MLK rooftop terrace garden is in full swing now that spring has finally reached. The kids have been planting all sorts of wonderful vegetables and herbs. Some of the recent things we have planted are broccoli, beets, cauliflower, kohlrabi, lettuce, basil, cilantro, celery, onions, scallions, and more! As it starts getting warmer we are looking forward to planting our summer vegetables. Those include tomatoes, tomatillos, peppers, eggplant, okra, and much more! The students often come out to learn about gardening and improve on their reading, writing, math, and observational skills. We just recently had a 5th grade class come out and measure how many cubic yards of soil would be needed to fill all of the beds! It ended up being about 22 cubic yards. That's a ton of soil! We are very grateful to have new garden space and can't wait for the harvests that the spring, summer, and fall will bring. If you have a spare moment come up to the garden and take a look!
