CitySprouts Update
It has been an eventful April to say the least! As we pulled the winter blanket off of our gardens, students were given the opportunity to help transplant seedlings from our wonderful greenhouse partner The Food Project. We love this time of year as it provides our students the ability to make their individual mark on the garden, by planting a seedling and having the chance to watch it grow each and every step of the way. Watching students take ownership of their school gardens is what we at CitySprouts live for. Now that the weather is warming up, our garden educators are looking forward to taking classes out into their neighboring communities on nature walks, specifically administering lessons focused on the native trees and animals that call their school grounds home.

Our annual fundraiser, Dig It was last week! A huge thank you to everyone who was able to attend. CitySprouts continues to not only survive, but grow with all of the enthusiasm and support we receive from our community sponsors and individuals like you! We exceeded our fundraising goal which directly ensures we are able to continue our mission of sparking wonder and curiosity in students through outdoor, garden based science education. One of the many ways in which we instill a lifelong connection to growing a garden and the greater natural world is through our Young Leaders Summer Program. Rising 6th - 8th graders have the opportunity to participate in our no cost, 5-week program (July 5th - August 4th) focused on creating future environmental stewards through project based science and engineering activities. Participants also develop garden based skills as they care and maintain the school garden, earning a $100 stipend upon completion of the program. Each week students will harvest from the garden and prepare a meal together in addition to several exciting field trip opportunities to encourage greater community involvement. If you would like to submit an application, please do so ASAP by visiting our website, the deadline for enrollment is quickly approaching!

If you would like to stay up to date with upcoming opportunities for both you and your student/s, follow us on Facebook/Instagram/LinkedIn. Our summer volunteer sign-ups are now live as well, so if you or someone you know is interested in helping their school community (no gardening experience required!), sign up here. Thanks again for all the support you and your school community have given CitySprouts over the years!
