Dear Families,

Our 5th Graders are headed to Nature’s Classroom in Groton, Massachusetts for the next three days! We look forward to hearing their adventures and insights in learning together, building community, and developing confidence in themselves.

Please make sure that your child is here by 7:55AM each morning. Our teachers jump right into their day with Morning Meetings or specials, and every child deserves a few minutes to settle into school. All King students strive to do their very best. Please have them arrive on-time so they can so be ready to go with their day.

Tied to being on-time is getting enough sleep. Sleep is such an important necessity. Students who are sleep deprived may experience a host of challenging factors including becoming moody, an increase in accidents, making poor judgements, and difficulty staying on task. Because we have a longer school day and an early start time, sleep is an important priority. So, what is the right amount? According to the American Academy of Pediatrics,

  • Children 3 to 5 years of age should sleep 10 to 13 hours per 24 hours (including naps) on a regular basis to promote optimal health.

  • Children 6 to 12 years of age should sleep 9 to 12 hours per 24 hours on a regular basis.

One way to ensure your child is getting enough sleep is to set a bedtime between 8-9PM on school nights. If you would like resources or assistance, please feel free to reach out to us.

Lastly, if you haven’t already, please check out the welcome back video from our specialists. When I think about what makes our school special, I have to include our amazing specialists. For many students, their highlight each day is coming to the King School to develop their skills in art, music, fitness/sports, Chinese, or library/technology. We recognize and celebrate our specialists!

Yours truly,

Gerald Yung, Principal
