National Disabilities Awareness Month
Posted on 11/12/2014
Service DogFollowing our RISE (responsibility, individual, self, environment) assembly highlighting National Hispanic Heritage month with guest speaker Vice Mayor Dennis Benzan in October. Our November assembly recognized National Disability Awareness Month with Kristin Hartness from Canines for Disabled Kids. Ms Hartness, who lives with a disability, came in with her service dog and talked with our students about the important role that service animals play in the lives of adults and children with disabilities. The students where riveted by her demonstration and asked many questions. The dog was a welcomed guest at our school and the students did a great job not talking to or petting the dog with out permission while he was working.
