From the Principal: June 20, 2016

Dear Families,

I hope that you had a wonderful year! When I think back on this school year, it almost feels like two separate years considering the December move from our Broadway to Putnam locations.

Our new home is wonderful. We are fortunate to enjoy a truly state-of-the-art building. There are so many various points and sightlines in our classrooms and hallways that are truly picturesque. The building means different things to each student and teacher, but at the core exists the common thread of a place where great learning occurs. This isn’t possible without hard-working, dedicated, and thoughtful teachers. Like ship captains, our teachers lead our students for 180 days through multiple curriculums charting a course that can be routine, unusual, challenging, and fun. Our teachers are strong independent thinkers, great collaborators, and always look to support students by fostering strong interpersonal relationships. As the year comes to a close, please take a minute to thank your child’s teacher for keeping students at the center of their compass and teaching with their hearts and minds.

Please note that our final report cards will be mailed to families. You should receive a copy by Friday, June 24.

Looking ahead, you should receive a summer newsletter towards the end of July. The summer newsletter will include information on meeting dates at our awesome playground. Class lists will be posted in early August.

  • Thank you to Ms. Monica Leon for organizing Field Day. We appreciate all the parent volunteers for their help. This would not be possible without so many volunteers pitching in to lead the various activity stations.

  • Thank you to Mr. David Piper for the wonderful Spring Concert. We appreciate the funding from Friends of King to fund a pianist.

  • Thank you to Ms. Rachel Bailey for our Art Show. This was a special event to showcase the artistic talents of our entire student body.

Our last day of school is next Wednesday. We have a series of events on Monday: Portfolio Presentations are from 8-10AM, Kindergarten Graduation is at 9AM, and our Fifth Grade Moving Up Ceremony is at 2:30PM.

Thank you again for your support this past school year. Please have a safe summer!

Yours truly,

Gerald Yung, Principal
