Dr. M. L. King, Jr. Ski Trip
Posted on 04/08/2016

This March The King School teamed up with Youth Enrichment Services (YES) to provide a ski trip for 4th and 5th grade students.

YES programs offer year-round opportunities for outdoor and enrichment programs. Each program represents the vision of YES:

  • For youth to have access to affordable, in-depth programs that challenge them through outdoor sports and experiential education.
  • For youth to build strong relationships with positive role models and take advantage of apprenticeship opportunities to build technical and leadership skills.
  • For youth to have a safe place to engage in positive activities and quality experiences that foster character development and physical fitness.

The 4th and 5th graders of the M. L. King, Jr. School went on a ski trip to the Waterville Valley ski resort. We woke up at 4 a.m in the morning to get on the bus. The trip was organized by the YES organization. This is the first time many students went skiing. After our lesson most of the skiers conquered the bunny hill and we were proud of ourselves. One skier even went down a blue square slope which is something most first timers are unable to achieve on their first ski trip.

On the bunny hill we rode up on a J-Bar, they are metal bars curved at the bottom. Going down the bunny hill is not easy. The instructors taught us how to stop and ski from side to side by making a pizza shape with our skis.

On the ride back home everyone made thank you cards for the people of the Yes organization. They made this trip possible and everyone was feeling awesome and grateful for an amazing trip. It will be a lasting memory for the Dr. M. L. King, Jr. students.
