Four first grade students in Ms. Katherine Hanna’s class at the
Kennedy-Longfellow School took top honors in local poetry contests.
Marcel Medina won first place in the Harvard Coop Annual Poetry Contest for the K-1 grade range for his poem Corn.
In
the 14th Annual Cambridge Public Library & Cambridge Tree Project
Poetry Contest, three students from the class took first, second, and
third place prizes in the first grade category. The winners are: Aurora
Arruda – first place (tied) for her poem My Anger; Farris Omar- second
place (tied) for his poem My Dad; Alejandro Nolan- third place (tied)
for his poem Trees.

Corn on the cob
hot and juicy
like a crowd sitting
all in a row.

When I am angry
the sky is blank
a stampede of buffalos
tramples me
a tornado sucked me into a swirl.
When I am angry
beetles bite me from
the inside out.
A tsunami drowns me
a volcano erupts
lava splashes on me.
When I am angry
my face turns red.
I could explode!
