Sustainability Manager

kristenKristen Middleton was hired in November 2010 to be the Cambridge Public School District’s first Sustainability Manager. In this role she founded the school district’s Office for Sustainability, which is housed in the Facilities Department. Kristen graduated from Yale University in 2006. She feels a strong connection with the City of Cambridge and the sustainability issues currently facing the school department.

Kristen taught elementary school for 4 years in the Boston-area, and also founded Greenfox Schools, a 501(c) 3 non-profit that specializes in sustainability programming for schools. Kristen served for three years on the K-12 Steering Committee for the U.S. Partnership for Education for Sustainable Development, a United Nations Compact. In May 2010, she was invited by the United Nations Association to contribute as an ambassador to the Transformative Education Forum at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. Most recently Kristen served as the Secretary for the Green Cambridge Board, and ran for Cambridge City Council in 2013. In 2014, Kristen completed her Master of Finance degree from the New England College of Business and Finance.

Kristen is thrilled to be directing the Cambridge Green Schools Initiative (CGSI) for the Cambridge Public School Department and to be reducing energy, saving money, and implementing sustainability operations for the school district.

In her free time, Kristen enjoys spending time with her husband, dogs, and family.
