The Milky Way
By: Mairead He
First Place, Third Grade
The Milky Way is like a mother,
a mother with gigantic hands.
She reaches out to the planets,
so they stay in the same land. The Milky Way is like a queen, and the planets are her kids.
The stars are her maids, they come in every shade.
The Dream Tree
By: Grant Morishita
Third Place, Third Grade
High up in the tallest trees. I found a hive of bumblebees. They tried to sting me. But I climbed up higher, scraping my knees and climbing as high as I can see. And high in the trees I saw three cups of tea, and William Shakespeare reciting to me. “All days are night to see thee, and nights are bright days when do show thee me.” I screamed in horror knowing Shakespeare was dead. Only to wake up right in my bed.
