Through hands-on experiments, content reading, discussion, and writing, fifth graders are encouraged to think as scientists. Students design their own experiments, make hypotheses, carry out experiments and reflect on their learning through writings and discussions. We have in-depth conversations and students learn to express their thinking clearly, logically and utilize evidence to support their thinking.

Topics covered in fifth grade science include:

  • Simple Machines
  • Electricity and Magnetism
  • Review of Rocks and Minerals; Plants and Photosynthesis; Water Cycle; Life Cycles; Ecosystems; Solar System
